California electricians have until January 1, 2007 in which to comply with the state’s new mandatory certification program, but time is running out.

ANSWER: All electricians who make connections of greater than 100 volt amps working for C-10 Contractors


QUESTION: I have a C-10 Contractors license; do I have to be certified?

ANSWER: No, sole owners who have a license in their own name do not need to be certified.


QUESTION: How exactly is electrical certification going to be enforced?

ANSWER: Electrical certification will be enforced in the following ways.

  • By Local Building Inspector: All inspectors have the authority to red tag any project utilizing uncertified electricians.

  • Through your Insurance Company: Your insurance provider is not legally required to make good on any claim caused by an illegally hired employ.
